God is NOT dead!

exploding heart
I love the song GOD’S NOT DEAD by the Newsboys and boy o boy my kids love it too.  It’s one of our favorites.  When it plays on the radio it’s usually cranked up to heart pounding capacity. One of the reasons I love this song is because I can SO relate to the words:

Let love explode
And bring the dead to life
A love so bold
To bring a revolution somehow

Now I’m lost in your freedom
And this world I’ll overcome

My God’s not dead
He’s surely alive

He’s living on the inside
Roaring like a lion
My God’s not dead
He’s surely alive
He’s living on the inside
Roaring like a lion

He’s roaring
He’s roaring
He’s roaring like a lion

Quite honestly though, there was a time in my life that it felt like God was far far away.  Kind of  like someone living up beyond the clouds looking down as a judge.  I felt like he was a spectator in this so called game of my life.  Have you ever experienced the same feelings?

This happens when we have an incorrect view of who God really is.  It was MY unbelief and MY fears that kept God at a distance. In Jeremiah 29:12-13 it says . . . Then you will call upon me and come, and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.

Belief requires faith and faith is an action.  We are told in Galatians 3:6 . . .Consider Abraham: “He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.  And like Abraham, when we have faith, we inherit God’s promises. The bible says in Hebrews 11:1 . . . Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see.  Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him (Hebrews 11:6).

It wasn’t until I came to a point in my life that I began diligently searching for God and crying out for him that he showed up on the scene. You could say that prior to this experience, my faith was dead.  But now I can testify like the song says, “My God is not dead, He’s surely alive, He’s living on the inside, and roaring like a Lion.”  It is at this point in my life when God poured out his Holy Spirit in my life and filled me with His presence. God became real to me in a whole new way, through experiencing Him in my life.

Do you long to feel God’s presence and to hear from him? If you would have asked me this question a few years back I would have told you (nicely) that I think you’re crazy and that God doesn’t still speak to people like he did back in bible times.  Friend if you feel the same as I did back then, then you are believing the lie too.  Satan is a liar and a deceiver and he loves nothing more that to convince us of his lies.  When Jesus died for us to pay the penalty of our sin, the good news is that “He arose from the dead and is ALIVE.”  The risen Christ ascended into heaven but he promised not to leave us or forsake us and he gives us his helper and comforter, the Holy Spirit who is with us.

In Hebrews 13:8 it says . . . Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). He is the same God, bible times, our time. He is changeless and He is fully alive and he continues to pour out his spirit on his believers. God is not dead.  He is our creator and he knows us and desires us.  He is not a spectator that looks down from heaven but desires to be fully engaged in our hearts and lives and the good news is that he is our “Emmanuel” meaning God with us.

In Revelations 3:20 it says . . . Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.  God longs for us to let him in and for us to feast at the table WITH him. He is not a spectator but becomes actively involved in our lives when we invite him in.  He’s in this with us and desires to guide us unto a full and abundant life with him and all he has for us.  Is the door of your heart open to him?

Father God I pray that the eyes of our hearts my be enlightened that we may know YOU and the hope to which you have called us. Fill us with your Spirit so that we may Glorify you.  Thank you for all you have done and continue to do.  To you be all Glory and Power both now and forever. AMEN

When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. John 15:26

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit. Ephesians 1:13

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Romans 8:16
